Dr. Katherine Kantardjieff, a chemist, retired from the California State University (CSU) system in 2023. Kantardjieff spent thirty-five years in the CSU system as a faculty member, department chair, dean, and provost. She served as the inaugural dean of the College of Science and Mathematics at California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) and spearheaded the creation of its engineering program. In this interview, Kantardjieff discusses her early years, her career as a woman scientist and administrator in the CSU, and the evolution of CSUSM during her time there.
